It’s moving day tomorrow. My car is mostly packed. The contents of the apartment I lived in in Albany, which I shipped ahead of me, arrived on Friday. More on that in a few days. Everything is ready to go. My dad even installed his navigation unit in my car. As he did so I scrapped the last trace of Albany, in the form of my SUNY Albany parking sticker, off the windshield.
I spent the last six days saying good by to family and friends. First was the Science Fiction Society of Northern New Jersey, whom I have not been able to spend enough time with. I got to attend the opening of an exhibit at the Historical Society of Rockland and see the new Star Trek movie as well as The Great Gatsby. There was also a visit to the main branch of the New York Public Library, which has been on my bucket list for some time. It all ended with a dinner with my mom.
This move is about to happen. In many ways it feels like that moment when I first started college. My parents had left and the magnitude of what I was doing hit me. It was a bit overwhelming at first. Then I thought of all the wonderful possibilities and things didn’t seem as scary. College turned out to be a great time. Of course moving down South is a much bigger transition. But I have a feeling I will be alright.
